The Indian culture varies like its vast geography. People speak in different languages, dress differently, follow different religions, eat different food, so though variations in hand crafts creation can be seen.
Different regions, reflect variations on the theme of handicrafts as there are crafters with time on their hands.

What is the purpose of HANDICRAFTS?

My country, India is blessed with rich natural resources. These God-given natural wonders are the sources of people’s food, shelter, and other basic needs.

After some time, people acquired many handcraft skills that enabled them to tinker with nature. They used the raw materials from waste material, trees, plants, and other natural resources that are very abundant and turned them into simple, yet useful & decorative handicraft items.

Indian handicrafts has always been praised & accepted by many worldwide.

Few of us may ask, it’s just a decorative item, it don’t fulfill any purpose. But I would say “It Do Has Many Purpose” and few of them are mentioned below:

• Handicrafts are unique expressions and represent a culture, tradition and heritage of a country
  Depicts nature of people through their creative art & crafts. The artisans are very sensitive for their creation, so though they are very sensitive about their traditions and cultures also. Example “The artisans of India” are the common people carrying out the traditional heritage of their fathers and forefathers.
• Reuse of waste materials
  Upcycling art has a positive impact on the environment as it contributes to the reuse of waste. Today's society generates an enormous amount of waste. As a result, recycling has become an essential action to protect the environment. So what's better than creating something handmade out of it useful and decorative.
• It preserves traditional knowledge, talents & creativity of rural woman (in India)
  The handicrafts are one of the best sources to preserve a culture, a tradition, value and stories.
  Local art and handcrafts are an inseparable representation of the tangible culture and spirit of the place and of the connection between man and his environment. Local traditions are unique, even within very narrow physical borders, and their preservation expresses protection of cultural diversity.
  Preserving the crafts in their cultural context is an expression of honoring that culture.
• Environment friendly
  Handicrafts are usually made of waste material or local natural raw materials, easily available at that particular region. It uses wood pieces, recycled plastics, bottles and other waste materials which are converted to beautiful pieces of handicraft items. It is crafted either by artisan's hand or simple tools, are more biodegradable and environmental friendly than factory-made products. It is also completely free from hazardous materials and chemicals.
• Strengthen Economy of any country
  Handicrafts are mostly praised by foreigners, so it has boosted export industry since few years. The small artisans creativity which once was ignored are more in demand and they are employed. So handicraft is playing huge role in strenghten our economy.
